Instead, tell the year that we were the winners

It would be too easy to say good riddance to 2020.

The pandemic has wrought havoc and compounded the lives of many people already challenged on several fronts. For some, the year has brought tragedy. Which makes it difficult to review the period with any fondness.

However, if we tell ourselves that 2020 robbed us, then it has won hands down. Knocked us out and mocked us after only the first round.

Instead, let’s celebrate any positive event or random act of kindness, no matter how small. Let’s stare the year back in the face and say we won.

Some of us rekindled a love of nature on walks in open spaces; our bids for freedom during lockdown. Some re-learnt the art of conversation as we spent an increased amount of time with one another.

And we know from this and other social media platforms of those who've used the opportunity to re-evaluate their purpose and everything for which they stand.

Let’s piece these precious moments together in our hearts and minds.

Being thankful even for small things is powerful. It moves us to a more positive state. It helps build resilience so we continue to meet the challenges that life throws at us.

When small moments of gratitude combine, they create something mighty and worthwhile.
